WHAT CAUSES WATER POLLUTION?

Our rivers , reservoirs, lakes, and seas are drowning in chemicals, waste, plastic, and other pollutants.



Here´s why:

  • marine dumping;

  • industrial waste;

  • sewage, mainly from households;

  • nuclear waste;

  • oil pollution;

  • underground storage lakes.





TYPES OF WATER POLLUTION

surface water pollution: found on the exterior of the Earth's crust, oceans, rivers and lakes.


groundwater pollution: found in soil or under rock structure or aquifers.


microbiological pollution: microorganisms that thrive on water and fishes that cause illness to land animals and humans.

oxygen depletion pollution: microorganisms that are in water and feed on biodegradable substances.



HOW TO PREVENT WATER POLUTION

- Reduce the use of chemicals when cleaning;
- Practise water conservation;
- Dispose of your medications properly;
- Avoid to use of pesticides and herbicides;
- Avoid water polluting recreational activities;
- Avoid disposing items into the toilet.
